Knowing where the hydrant is isn't the same as knowing it works
RedAlert tracks every hydrant in your district: type, size, location, flow test history, inspection interval, service records, and current status. That data lives on the same property preplans and the same maps your crews use, so an officer sizing up a fire knows which hydrant to pull from and which one is out of service before the line goes out.
Flow tests that do the math
Enter your static pressure, residual pressure, pitot reading, and outlet size, and RedAlert calculates the flow rate for you and plots the curve. You get available flow at 20 PSI, at 0 PSI, and across the full range, graphed and stored on the hydrant record alongside its NFPA classification. Test history, inspection history, and repair history all live on the same record.
Those flow test graphs are also exactly what an ISO reviewer asks to see, and they come out of the system as a report rather than a project.
Primary, secondary, tertiary, and what happens when one is down
Hydrants attach to your property preplans in order: primary, secondary, tertiary. So the preplan for a given building doesn't just say there's water nearby, it says which hydrant to take first and where to go next.
Take a hydrant out of service and RedAlert flags every property that depended on it. Crews responding to those addresses see the alert. On the mapping layers in RedAlert Responder and RedAlert MDT, the hydrant's icon goes dark, so an officer scanning the map sees at a glance which water is available and which isn't. No radio call to find out, no discovering it at the worst possible moment.
Maintained by the people who use them
Hydrant work happens outside. Crews plot, edit, inspect, flow test, service, and open work orders on hydrants directly from RedAlert Mobile, in the field, and it posts to the record immediately. Inspectors working in RedAlert Fire Prevention can flag a dry or damaged hydrant as a violation during an inspection, and that flag reaches responding crews the same way everything else does.
Getting started doesn't mean starting over. Existing hydrant data imports from CSV, GIS, and shapefiles, so whatever your department or your water authority already maintains comes in as-is.

Common questions
Does RedAlert calculate hydrant flow, or do we have to?
RedAlert calculates it. Enter your static, residual, and pitot pressures along with the outlet size and coefficient, and the system computes the flow rate and plots the curve, including available flow at 20 PSI and 0 PSI. The graph stays on the hydrant record and prints in a format ISO reviewers expect.
Can we import the hydrants we already have?
Yes, from CSV, GIS, or shapefiles. Most departments already have hydrant data somewhere, often from the water authority, and it comes across as-is rather than being retyped.
How do crews know a hydrant is out of service?
Two ways. Any property that depended on that hydrant gets flagged, so responding crews see the alert for that address. And on the map in RedAlert Responder and RedAlert MDT, the hydrant's icon is darkened, so it's visually obvious which water is usable without reading anything.
Can hydrants be worked on from the field?

Can we track who owns each hydrant?
Yes. Ownership is tracked through a custom drop-down field, which matters because hydrants often belong to a water authority or a private property owner rather than the department, and knowing who to call is half the problem.
How does this help our ISO rating?
ISO reviews water supply documentation closely, including flow test records and testing intervals. RedAlert holds flow test history with graphs, inspection intervals, and service records in a form you can produce on request rather than reconstruct from a filing cabinet.
Do hydrants connect to our preplans?
Yes, and this is what separates hydrant records from a hydrant map. Primary, secondary, and tertiary hydrants attach to each property preplan, so the preplan tells a responding officer which hydrant to take first and where to go if it's down.
