Why Alpine
Software customized to your department. Actually.
Every fire RMS vendor claims their product is "configurable." Alpine Software customizes RedAlert to your department: configurable down to the field level out of the box, and backed by a U.S.-based engineering team that builds the reports, workflows, and features your department needs when configuration alone isn't enough.
Why does customization matter so much in fire software?
Because no two departments run alike. A 15-station county system reporting under 13 separate FDIDs, a volunteer company whose LOSAP plan caps points by category, a district whose ISO audit wants dwelling-fire documentation cut a specific way. These aren't edge cases. In the fire service, they're just another Tuesday.
Big vendors handle that reality with a settings page and a price list. Need a field added? That's a ticket. Need a report the product doesn't ship with? That's a change order, or a no. Departments tell us about being charged hundreds of dollars just to have incident codes turned on, and about running their real reports in Microsoft Access because their six-figure RMS "doesn't do that."
How Alpine handles it
RedAlert starts more flexible, configurable down to the field level, with a custom report builder in the platform. But the real difference is what happens when you need something the software has never done: you talk to our engineering team in Rochester, NY, and we build it. Customers have asked us for things no vendor had ever been asked for, like tracking smoke-alarm installations across a county, and it became part of their system.
We can work this way because of who we are: a fire-first company where the people writing the code are a phone call away from the people using it, not a product committee three acquisitions removed from the fireground.
What customization looks like in practice
- Custom reports built for your ISO audits, grant applications, board meetings, and municipal requirements
- LOSAP rules configured to your exact plan document: caps, categories, stipends, pay-per-call
- Screens and fields shaped to how your department actually enters data
- Multi-station, multi-FDID structures handled in one system
- Inspection checklists matched to your local code amendments
- New features built by Alpine's Rochester engineering team when your department needs something that doesn't exist yet
Common questions
Does customization cost extra?
Configuration (fields, screens, reports from the builder, LOSAP rules) is part of the platform and part of implementation. Larger custom engineering is scoped honestly up front. What you will not find is a menu of nickel-and-dime charges for turning on features the product already has.
How do we request a custom report or feature?
Call or submit a ticket, the same U.S.-based team that supports you handles the request. There's no separate "professional services" gate between you and the people who can change the software.
Our department does something unusual. How do we know RedAlert can handle it?
Bring it to the demo. Seriously, the unusual requirement is the best possible test of a vendor, and it's the part of the conversation we enjoy. If RedAlert doesn't do it today, we'll tell you plainly whether we'll build it and what that takes.
