How RedNMX™ Simplifies the NERIS Transition: Your Questions Answered

As fire departments prepare for the shift to NERIS, many are asking important questions about how this change will impact daily operations. During our NERIS Simplified webinar, we received some great questions about the new system—and we’re here to give you the answers you need.

Below, we highlight how RedNMX™ will support your department during this transition, ensuring a smooth and efficient shift to NERIS.

  1. Can I still enter a call at an intersection and get the latitude and longitude?
  2. Yes! With RedNMX’s intuitive mapping feature, you can drop a marker on the map and drag it to the intersection to automatically generate the latitude and longitude. This allows for accurate location reporting no matter where the call comes in.

  1. Can we type the 3-digit code to quickly select the incident type?
  2. The 3-digit code is no longer used in NERIS, but don’t worry—we’ve made it easy for you to find incident types quickly. Simply use the search box to find the type you need, saving you time during data entry.

  1. Are all fields required for entry?
  2. Not all fields are required, but rest assured, RedNMX™ will ensure that you meet the minimum NERIS submission requirements before submitting any reports. This helps maintain compliance without unnecessary manual checks.

  1. Will there be county-level coordination for data feeds?
  2. Yes, RedNMX™ will update all existing CAD Interface data services to support NERIS with current incoming formats. As opportunities arise to collaborate with CAD vendors, we’ll work to enhance data integration to provide the best possible solution for your department.

  1. Will NERIS be accessible on tablets and mobile devices?
  2. Absolutely! RedNMX™ fully supports NERIS incidents across desktops and mobile devices. While the mobile app will continue to deliver notifications and incident data, we’re also planning to roll out mobile NERIS incident entry in the near future to further streamline your workflow.

  1. What if dispatch doesn’t use the Alpine dispatch module?
  2. NERIS can still be generated and submitted through our software, ensuring that your data remains consistent and compliant.

  1. Can we track all times for each call, like when it was received, when units are enroute, and when they clear?
  2. Yes! These times can be mapped to standard NERIS time fields in RedNMX™, ensuring your department continues to track essential call data accurately without additional steps or manual input.

  1. What happens to our historical NFIRS data?
  2. Don’t worry about losing your historical data. All NFIRS records will still be accessible within the same module, while the new NERIS module will operate separately. This means you can still access old records while transitioning to NERIS for new incidents.

  1. Will we still need to upload NFIRS to the USFA?
  2. Are You Prepared for the NERIS Transition in 2025?No, with real-time submission through RedNMX™, your incident data will automatically be sent to the USFA when you hit “submit.” You can also track the status directly within the record, making the process faster and more efficient.

  1. Can submitted calls be modified after submission?
  2. Absolutely! With RedNMX™, you can modify any submitted call and resubmit it as needed. This allows for flexibility and accuracy, with full security measures in place to protect the integrity of your data.

  1. How will the kiosk system work for attendance?
  2. Finger Reader Kiosk ModuleAttendance tracking through the kiosk will function just as it did with NFIRS. Members will log in by thumb or manually, choose their unit and task, and their attendance will be recorded in the NERIS report.

  1. Is disk submission still required?
  2. No! RedNMX™ completely eliminates the need for disk submission. With NERIS, you can submit incidents in real-time directly from RedNMX™—no more waiting or using outdated submission methods.

  1. Can I still use custom queries with MS Access?
  2. Best Fire Department SoftwareYes, you can! NERIS data is stored in a similar but separate schema within your existing database. As long as you have the necessary permissions, you can build or use custom queries, giving you full control over your data.

  1. Will there be additional training sessions before the NERIS transition?
  2. Yes! We’re planning another session in early fall 2025 to further support your department as you prepare for the transition to NERIS. Stay tuned for more details.
